Who Is At Risk Of Developing Diabetes?

As we age many different problems come up out of nowhere, one day we are young and healthy the next day we are middle aged and full of aches and pains. Diabetes is just one of these illnesses.

The first thing you should do is work out which of the risk factors for diabetes you have. Somethings you can't do anything about, like your family genes for example, but there are plenty of factors that you can do something about. You just need to accept what they are and make the commitment to do something about them.

Chances are for the first 25-30 years of your life you never once worried about what you ate and you never struggled with your weight. From age 30-40 people eat the same but do a lot less exercise so that is when weight starts to accumulate usually. If you ignore your weight then you are increasing the chances of you developing diabetes.

While you can do something about your weight, you can't do anything about getting older. When you add middle aged and overweight together you really are increasing the likelihood that you will end up being diabetic at some point.

Hypertension – having high blood pressure or hypertension increases the risk of developing diabetes. It also increases the danger of suffering serious complications, so you should keep a check on your blood glucose if you have high blood pressure.

Sedentary lifestyle – lack of exercise can make people more likely to develop diabetes. Often this goes along with being very overweight.

Certain endocrinological diseases – if you suffer from certain other conditions including metabolic syndrome or Cushing's disease, there is an increased risk of developing diabetes.
