Causes Of Hair Loss In Women

Today in the United States alone, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, around 30 million women are now affected by the problem of hair loss. Although it is common in older women, especially when they reach menopause, it is also being seen in a large numbers of younger women as well. In this article, we will take a look at some of the causes of hair loss in women today.

The main causes of hair loss in women are related to the same factors as hair loss in men. Similar to men, women may lose hair because of age, genetics, or they may have a problem related to hormone levels. Along with these, there are other factors that can cause hair loss in women.

However, in this article we will be going over a few of the medical causes for hair loss in women today. You will find that as long as the proper diagnosis is provided by a doctor or dermatologist, you should be able to treat your hair loss.

1. In some women they may begin to loss their hair when they are suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome, a common hormonal problem in women. In some cases, you will find that the only way that the doctor has to diagnose this is that the patient is losing hair.

2. Another reason why some women may be losing hair is because they are undergoing some form of treatment because they are suffering from an autoimmune disorder. In cases like this, the hair loss can be quite dramatic in some cases it comes out in large clumps or patches.

3. There is another medical condition that can cause hair loss in women and that is Telogen Effluvium. This type of hair loss may occur after an event in a women's life alters there hormone levels. Some events that may lead to this are child birth, using a crash diet, surgery, or it could even be something traumatic that has happened.

It is important that before any type of treatment is taken a medical doctor should be consulted. You will want to do this for a few reasons, primarily because the doctor will be able to find the underlying cause of the hair loss to be treated. This also works in your favor as you will not be doing something that may cause the problem to become worse.

Above we have gone over only a few of the causes of hair loss in women, this does not mean that you will suffer from any of these. If you do happen to have excessive hair loss you should seek medical advice to determine the cause. You should note that some hair loss is natural and part of the aging process.
