Time Management: Overcome Procrastination In One Quick Step
We all know the feeling. We know something needs to be done but we just keep putting it off because it is something we don't enjoy or it just doesn't feel like the right time. However, this procrastination can be deceivingly counter-productive and can hang over us for the rest of the day.
By putting off one or two tasks that need doing we are seriously disrupting our ability to manage our time effectively. If you procrastinate on something it plays on your mind, affects your concentration and can sap your energy levels.
What is more, if you put something off for the whole day and actually fail to get it done at all you will be left feeling deflated by a lack of achievement. One isolated incident of procrastination may be okay but if it happens regularly the negative feelings that it causes will find their way into your family and leisure time and may even disrupt sleep. This can cause a drop in productivity and a possible downward spiral into poor time management.
So, you can see that procrastination is as subtle as it is damaging when it comes to effective time management. Thankfully, procrastination is not too difficult to deal with and by nipping it at the bud you can prevent a lot of problems later.
The first step in combating procrastination is to identify the thing or things that you put off on a regular basis. Perhaps these tasks aren't really necessary or you can delegate them? However, if they must be done by you schedule five or ten minutes each morning to make a start on them. This is the best time as both your motivation and energy levels will be high. Very often once you start on the task you will find that you will stick at it and get it done. And that's it, you can now concentrate on what you need to do for the rest of the day with an easy mind.
