How to Teach a Classical Christian Education to Your Children
Classical Christian education was the foundation for schools in early American history. Most teachers or instructors were ministers who were educated in classical languages, Protestant theology, and literature.
As a result, students studied the bible in its original Greek and Hebrew along with other classics in Greek.
Classical Christian education often produces students that are amazing leaders and thinkers. A rigorous and challenging education made this type of education a winning service.
Sadly, the current educational system in the nation has dishonored the value of this commodity. With the irrational and classless changes that the current system makes, academic degrees show nothing about a person's thinking abilities.
Other educational models of the past, such as Classical Christian education, have a foundation in working hard and acquiring book knowledge.
For the most part, the ability to analyze, reason, and look at things from other perspectives come from reading. Classical Christian education develops this scholarly skill so that students can understand and apply the Scriptures.
In Colonial America, education was not just Christian in the teachings of the Christian doctrine and faith, but also in classifying all reality by principles and teachings prescribed in the Bible. The colonial mind approached education, philosophy, and social theories through Christian lenses.
Classical Christian education has existed in America since the early 1900s. The education was based not just on Christian principles and values, but high academic standards. The results were amazing.
Can we achieve the same results today? Is it even possible to teach in the same way when our teachers have absolutely no training in the classical method? Well, to start with, we need to use the tools we have.
The Bible is something we can teach from directly. We can also teach from classic texts from the centuries. There are many great works of science, history, theology, and literature that have been translated to English.
Though Christian Classical education might seem obsolete, it has the power to mold a student into a thinking, reasoning individual who can read a profound book and write an analytical essay about it. And above all, it's designed to lead the student to God.
