How to avoid the melted bar problem…

 October 17, 2009
By Memnoch "nanoboy"
First, the bars taste good, just pick a flavor you like. Second, the nutrition mix is perfect with very low carbs and a good protein weight. I could buy more expensive bars elsewhere, with slightly better stats, but these are great!

Some report melting problems. When it is hot and you get a shipment, don't open the box or take the shrink wrap off (if it is), just put it in the freezer for an hour or so, then sit on the counter. The chocolate and fill will return to solid form, and not stick to the wrappers when you unwrap a bar to eat it.

I've been using these kinds of products for 40 years (Joe Weider and York Barbell started it all) and the EAS bars are fantastic, newbies just need to learn how to deal with summer heat issues.

AMAZING! They don't have that weird "lo carb" taste & they're really, really CHOCOLATEY!

I've tried a lot of protein bars. I have Metabolic Syndrome, and I need to have snacks between meals to keep my sugar steady and my appetite somewhat under control.

Well, let's face it, a lot of those low-carb bars tastes pretty funky. Either dry and with a sort of weird aftertaste, or not chocolatey enough, or not sweet enough to tame a sweet-craving, etc.

I just tried these yesterday. The market had run out of the ones I usually get (The South Beach) and so I bought this one. (I like the EAS protein drink that tastes like Yahoo!, so I figured I'd give it a go.)

What a surprise. These are way, way, way better than any I've tried, including Pure Protein, Myoplex, Atkins, Luna, etc, and even the South Beach ones.

If you are a person who likes chocolate meal bars for snacks (or meal replacements), then trust me, these taste VERY chocolatey, have a really nice texture (not overly chewy, not dry, not gunky), and it actually serves to satisfy the need for something sweet and desserty. Really nice. It's not low-fat, though, so keep that in mind. And if you have thyroid issues or sensitivity to SOY products, forget it. The first ingredient is a protein blend with soy. Note: If you have thyroid issues, keep soy intake to minimal or none. I have thyroid issues, so for me, this would be an occasional treat to keep me from going piggers over chocolate or candy or cake.

This has maltitol, and if you're sensitive or get gastric disturbances from that (some do), watch intake. Would not recommend more than one bar a day, for sure, if you get the ickies from maltitol.

The stats for one bar:
Calories = 240
Total Fat= 8 grams (no trans fat, 6 grams of saturated fat)
negligible cholesterol
Sodium = 340; Potassium = 230
Total Carbs: 27 grams; Sugar Alcohols 17 grams); Net carbs= 4 grams
Dietary Fiber: 6 grams
Assorted vitamins and minerals
Protein 17 grams.

There it is. A really fabulous tasting low-carb chocolate bar that's got 17 grams of protein.

Enjoy

Fresh and filling

I've been happy with the EAS CarbControl bars I've purchased from Amazon. They're pretty fresh (sometimes the ones I get from WalMart are not so much) and I've always loved the product because they're so protein and fiber-heavy that they leave me satisfied until lunch. I just wish they'd stick to their flavors. Whenever I get to really liking one (like the old chocolate strawberry mousse – I really miss that one) they discontinue it and I have to find another. This is the best chocolate-flavored one I've found.

good taste – low carb

Of all the low carb bars I've eaten, these are one of the best. A little sweet but not too rich. They are crispy and not as dense as many others but they are still filling. If you are not familiar with low carb bars, they all seem to leave you needing a bottle of water when finished. These do that too but not as bad as most.

My husband had me order these for him while he was on the Atkins diet. He really liked them, a little too much he thinks. They were a great thing to keep in his drawer at work for when he needed a snack, but had no low carb meal available. The only downside is that they are too good tasting and he kept eating these instead of meals!
