Delicious

I must say I was skeptical about trying this product. Having tried other nutritional shakes I was expecting this to taste like metallic sludge. But not so, these shakes are delicious and filling. I will definitely make these a permanent staple in my eating plan.

This is a good product for diabetics. It helps control hunger, is great tasting and doesn't raise blood sugar. The price is also satisfactory.

Hunger Smart Shake

I tryed this shake and I have to say.I love it, The best ever. I work at night and I wanted something that will control late night snacking. I feel full I don't feel like I'm missing anything. The best part of it is, it don't raise your blood sugar. The vanilla and chocolate both are good. only wish they would make it in strawberry aswell.

An advancement over older nutritional shakes, chocolate flavor a bit strong

By Allen Smalling "Constant Reader,"
This Glucerna Hunger Smart Shake has the same kind of nutrition and similar protein to the more traditional Ensure or Boost type of liquid nutrition but significantly fewer calores (180 per 11.8 oz. bottle, and what there are, are supposed to spike blood-sugar levels more slowly). The bottles chill nicely and fit the hand well but each bottle top is encased in a hard plastic peelaway band as a barrier, a sensible precaution but a bit of a nuisance to remove. I notice the Glucerna people have styled the chocolate flavor "Rich" although better designations might be "Deep" or even "Dark." I am more of a milk-chocolate lover and usually tone down this product with a little cold regular milk. (As of right now, the only flavors available are this "Rich" chocolate and vanilla.)

As of the time of this writing, the Amazon price is much better than I can do at my local pharmacy. In my experience this excels over other similar products, even "regular" Glucerna. It is aimed at diabetics but may find use with other people who simply want to keep the calories down; so in my opinion Glucerna Hunger Smart shakes are well worth trying. Perhaps if this product is successful the good folks at Abbott, the parent company, will introduce more flavors.

Almost Perfect – Tastes Good but Filling?

I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for over 38 years. My blood sugars run pretty stable (between 70 and 140) and I don't have any other health concerns. The issue I came across recently was hitting the big "40" and trying to control diet with some weight gain. For the past 14 weeks I have been on a pretty caloric strict diet and ran into the "diet wall". Many suggestions were to increase my protein intake, especially in the morning. Great idea but how many eggs can you really eat? I'm not a huge fan of meat though will indulge in some chicken and such so I went on the hunt for some kind of easy, high protein breakfast. With a high demand job and running around, easy is the only thing I can work in successfully. Saw the commercials for these shakes and took the chocolate home to try. Needless to say, VERY TASTY! They do seem to be a little pricey but the chocolate is yummy and if the protein amount is accurate, it is almost perfect. ALMOST because the claim is "slow digestable carbs" or "carb steady" for which I had high hopes. I had only taken 6 units of insulin and my trusty shake but 2 hours later and my blood sugar was 80 (it had been 113 before I left). Too low to leave as/is because by lunch, it would be around 50. I will continue with the shakes (maybe try other flavors) but will have to either add something or reduce the insulin. 1200 calories a day is not as easy as it seems ya know?

Update 02/27/2013:
Had to add a few tips for those that may be in a similar situation. To stick with the diet and around 1200 calories a day along with the amount of insulin, I changed it up so that in the morning I only take about 4 units of Novolog (I use Levemir at night which is 24 hours) and drink the Glucerna shake. I added a small veggie/fruit tray of carrots, tomatoes, broccoli and a small cup of ranch dressing. Walmart sells these tiny trays for 1.99 and are perfect for anytime. Total calories 150 (give or take a few since I never finish the veggies) and combined with the Glucerna shake of 180 it gives me a breakfast of 330 calories. Turns out, this was PERFECT for blood sugars with a bonus of giving me a little extra "pep". For lunch, I usually do another veggie tray and a small fruit tray of apples/grapes and a little cheddar cheese for 170 calories and a total of 320 calories. I also take another 6 units of Novolog. Dinner is a variety of options like homemade mini-frittatas or homemade chili with everything low fat and around the 400 calorie mark or less. To switch it up, I may add a shake to lunch and replace the fruit or possibly dinner.

One more short update 04/01/2013:
Just another remark about the flavor. The rich chocolate especially is too-die-for delicious! It does not taste like a diet shake at all. Kind of like a rich, chocolatey, chocolate milk. The vanilla is good too but the rich chocolate is too good to pass up. The shakes have become my breakfast of choice. If you do decide to try these, be vigilant with the dose of insulin if on injections. No clue how a Type II would manage these if taking pills though I assume the low impact would be good for them as well.

Tasty Product

I was originally introduced to this product by my husband who is a diabetic and uses Glucerna as a between-meal snack. I don't have diabetes but I found this product so tasty that I now use it as a snack myself or as a fast lunch when I don't have time to prepare anything else. It's great that this sort of drink not only tastes good but is very nutritious as well.

Super for my glucose control!

These drinks are wonderful in helping the control of my glucose levels especially in the morning when I wake up. If I drink one before I go to bed it helps keep me from hitting rock bottom in the middle of the night while I am sleeping. I am set up on the subscription delivery service which is also great that way I don't have to worry about running out, they come to me every 30 days. You can set your own delivery schedule and also how many pack you want delivered each month. Amazon offers a lot of great deals on the subscription delivery service, you should check them out if there is something you need or want to get on a recurring basis. I also get my husband's Slim Fast on the same delivery set up.

Tastes great

It tastes like any diet shake but it doesn't spike my sugar and curbs my craving for chocolate. Not cheap but worth it.

Great taste and convenient!

After the original product I used changed their formula I searched for months and spent alot of $$$ looking for a replacement. I was very happy to find this product. Not only did it meet my high expectations for taste it's premixed for easy use. I'm very particular about taste and feel and the flavor. I use it as my breakfast drink and it keeps me hunger free for about 3-4 hours. I keep it in the refrigerator since I prefer it cold and many times I'll put it in the freezer for an hour or so to get it really cold or even a bit longer to end up with a milk shake. I love that I have this on Amazon autoship and don't have to worry about running out. It definitely helps to keep my blood sugar where it should be in the morning!
