Skin Care : Skin Care Ingredients and Their Roles

These days with so many ingredients both natural and synthetic that goes into our skin care products, it is good to have at least some idea what they key ingredients are and the role they play. Equipped with this knowledge, you can at least narrow down your search when buying skin care products or to identifiy certain ingredients that may cause some allergic reactions to your skin.

DMAE - DMAE is an acronym for dimethylaminoethanol, which is a substance that naturally occurs that stimulates a substance of phosphatidylcholine, an important component of cell membranes. DMAE is used in antiaging skin care creams to reduce facial sag by tightening the skin giving it the name, "facelift in a jar".

Matrixyl - Matrixyl also known as palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 is a peptide that is used in products for its skin repairing and wound healing properties. Matrixyl is the main active ingredient in Strivectin, which was initially marketed as a stretch mark reducer, but later discovered as an effective product for wrinkles and fine lines.

Besides a great moisturizer, you want your skin care ingredients to include something like aloe in some cases. Aloe is great for the skin, and can help sooth a sunburn. If you can find a great skin care lotion that has sun screen in it, this is a plus as well. This can help keep sun from damaging the skin, and that is one way to prevent some wrinkles in the first place.

These are a few of the most important ingredients in skin care products. If you have any skin problems, there are skin care products that can help you with those specific problems. Many of the ingredients listed above can also be found in supplements and various foods. The next time you are buying skin care products, look for the ingredients list and see if they have any of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants listed above. If they do, you know that your skin will be benefiting by the skin care product.
