Looking At Side Effects Associated With Insomnia

No longer a rare occurrence, insomnia affects many people each year. The good news is many of the sufferers are suffering only temporary. Those who occasionally deal with temporary insomnia can almost always link their lack of rest to a specific life event or something stressful occurring in their life.

Those who deal with insomnia that lasts longer than a few nights here and there, may struggle with the problem for weeks. Sometimes, persistent insomnia can go on for months or years! Those who are familiar with chronic insomnia know exactly how bothersome the side effects of insomnia can actually be.

Determining what type of insomnia you are suffering from is the first step to dealing with the side effects of the condition. There are generally three different types of insomnia and all sufferers fall into one of the three categories. Some will be able to not fall asleep at all, some will fall asleep but will wake every few hours and other will be able to sleep for three hours but then wake for the rest of the night.

Over the counter medication is often sought after when someone is suffering with insomnia. However, many of the available sleep aids can't address all three of the types of insomnia and only focus on falling asleep. Those who can fall asleep, but not stay asleep, often find these sleep aids only leave them more tired when they do wake in the night.

Headaches and a difficulty in concentration are the most noted side effects by those suffering with insomnia. Combining these two side effects with an overall irritability can produce difficult relationships in both the social and professional world of the insomniac. The insomniac may not want their condition to interfere or relate to their relationships, but it can be nearly impossible most of the time.

When an insomniac's natural energy reserves are depleted, the condition can be quite dangerous. Simple tasks like driving can become dangerous situations. The suffering person may find they are at a much higher risk for being in a traffic accident or even being put at danger as a pedestrian.

Sometimes unwise lifestyle choices are made when those suffering from insomnia realize their lack of sleep is adversely affecting the rest of their life. They often reach out toward legal stimulants to counteract their lack of sleep. These over the counter substances are often dangerous and can lead to other health issues when used often.

Those who suffer from insomnia will also often attempt to gain the sleep they need through the dangerous act of overindulging in alcohol and recreational drugs. This practice is terrible dangerous for the insomniac and those in their life! Greatfully, there are successful treatments available that can allow those suffering with insomnia to gain the rest they desperately desire.
