Recently a flight attendant has admitted stealing hundreds of thousands of pound s in cash and jewellery from passengers sleeping whilst flying business class on long haul flights.

Air France has had a reported 142 separate incidents of theft since January this year alone. A forty seven year old flight attendant has been charged after being caught out when a flight she was working on touched down at Charles de Gaulle airport following a flight from Tokyo in Japan.

Following months of investigations the French police were able to identify who the culprit was after carrying out checks on cabin crew members across several different rotas. It is thought that the Paris to Tokyo route was a particular target for the thief with many passengers reporting thefts.

Police think the route to Japan was such a target due to the Japanese carrying large amounts o cash on them rather than opting to use credit cards. Police had launched an investigation into the route after five passengers came forward, all from the same flight, admitting they had 3500 worth stolen during their time onboard.

The female flight attendant at the centre of the thefts has now admitted that she began her stealing from passengers in March 2009 and has already admitted to police that she has committed 26 thefts, that she can remember.

After considerable investigations the police have confirmed that "Her bank accounts revealed a dizzying gap between her lifestyle and her tax revenues."

The police authorities have also spoke of how she kept the jewellery she stole in a safe deposit box in a bank in Rouen, where she is believed to have lived. Some of the jewellery included a Cartier wedding ring and a range of diamond rings.

Credit cards, cheque books and travellers cheques were also found at her home, if she is found guilty of the thefts she will face up to ten years in prison.
